Product Description
Marcigny, a small town nestling between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. I found this dish to be high quality at a reasonable price. I used it in my experiments to make spinach gratin prior to Xmas. One of my wife's favorites. The size is just right for several people. Perhaps slightly too big for 2 people. The only downside I would mention is that the dish has 1 pitted defect on the exterior side surface. I selected Amazon over visits to SurLaTable and WilliamsSonoma because SurLaTable didn't have the inventory and I couldn't get waited on or my questions answered at WilliamsSonoma. I noticed Emile Henry was good quality and Amazon offered it at the best price. At the time $24 which was not too expensive for my testing. It is microwave, oven and dishwasher safe. So far so good.

Great for a single serving, or possibly a serving for two, without having to dirty a larger dish with too many leftovers. Has handled the broiler heat so far with no problem. Actually, I've already bought a second one. :-)
